The game Heads and Tails is a popular live auction fundraiser idea. This game will help warm up your crowd and raise some additional funds before the live auction. It is a variation of the coin toss game that asks participants to guess whether the coin will land on heads or tails.
Here are the basic rules:
- You will need to decide if you want to sell the heads and tails chances before the live auction or present it only at the beginning of the live auction. You can create a tear off on the bid paddles to sell the heads and tails during the live auction. They can also be sold at a table near check in during the event. The guests pay $20 or $25 each to play. If you sell the chances ahead of time, please give each guest some type of bracelet, necklace or blinking ring or pin to indicate that they can play the game.
- Make check in easy. Be sure your guests pre scan their credit cards at check in, so they just need to give their bid number to play and you don’t have to collect and account for cash and checks. Let us show you how you can easily do this, by checking out our website.
- Before your live auction, the auctioneer should explain the rules of the game and encourages other guests to participate. Volunteers will go through the room and take bid numbers from additional players. A picture of the prize should be displayed on the projection screen at this time.
- To start the game, the auctioneer asks all the participants to stand up.
- The auctioneer says: “Place your hand on your head (heads) or behind your back (tails).” All participants choose by placing their hand on their head or their tail.
- The auctioneer flips a coin. If it lands on heads, then all those with their hands on their heads remain standing. Those with their hands on their bums sit down or vice versa if the coin lands on tails.
- The auctioneer says again: “Choose heads or tails,” and the remaining participants choose again.
- The auctioneer flips the coin again. Those who chose incorrectly sit down.
- When there are only 3 or 4 guests left standing, ask them to come up on the stage.
- The auctioneer continues flipping the coin and playing the game until one person remains standing.
- That person is the winner and receives the prize.
