Chinese Auctions: Putting a New Twist on an Old Favorite

Recently one of our clients held a Chinese Auction which put a new twist on their event and was very successful!  A Chinese auction is kind of like several  “mini” raffles going on at one time!  Tickets are sold for several dollar amounts and guests place their tickets in the box or basket in front of the auction item they desire.  The items are displayed on auction tables much like a traditional silent auction.   Below are links to a few websites to see how it is set up your next Chinese Auction and examples of websites showing how to sell tickets prior your event. The key to this event was selling tickets online beforehand and pre-scanning the guest’s credit cards at check in.  This insured that the nonprofit was paid for all raffle tickets and allowed guests to easily purchase tickets using their bid number.  It also made reconciliation a breeze! The development director commented that this event was less work because they needed fewer raffle prizes than a standard silent auction, and it made more money!  I would say that is a win/win event!
